Launching conference “European Basic Skills Network”

Oslo_ConferenceOslo, June 2010. The launching conference was organized by the Norwegian Agency for Lifelong Learning VOX. It took place in Oslo from 2nd – 4th June 2010. It was attended by the representatives of different European organizations and institutions (Unesco Institute for Lifelong Learning, Institute of Education – University of London, NIACE, Ministries of Education, DIE, etc), as well as the representatives of the Ministry of Education of Serbia and the Department of Andragogy of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. The focus of the event was on the establishment of the European Basic Skills Network. The initiative for the network came from VOX and the objective is to foster policy development in the field of basic skills for adults, providing a platform for co – operation and collaboration between European policy makers and policy providers in the field. The members of the developing network are institutions representing national networks in the field of basic skills for adults; policy making departments or agencies at national or regional level; policy providers, especially research institutions and national advocacy associations. During the conference participants agreed on certain regulations and decided about further actions. Executive committee of the network has been chosen and one of the elected people is the representative of the Ministry of Education of Serbia and Head of Unit for Adult Education Mirjana Milanovic. It is arranged that the Annual General Meeting of the network’s members will take place before July 1st, 2011 in Lichtenstein. The participants evaluated this initiative as an important step in increasing literacy in Europe.
