Conference “Education and Peace“

E&P 11.11Belgrade, November 2004. Between November 11th – 14th 2004. the Adult Education Society in cooperation with Working Group for Political Education, BMZ Germany, German Foreign Office, Faculty of Philosophy and Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Belgrade, Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation, and Dadalos organization – organized the International Conference „Education and Peace“. The Conference took place at Sava Center and Hotel Intercontinental in Belgrade. Approximately 70 participants – adult educators, teachers from formal and non-formal education sectors, trainers and associates from Non-Governmental Organizations (“NGOs”), employees and associates from relevant Ministries; and policy makers (from all levels) from Albania, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Germany, Israel, Macedonia, Northern Ireland, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, and Slovenia. The main aim of the Conference was to examine the role of education and educators in the promotion and preservation of peace throughout the region, which will, in turn, contribute to the stability, development, and prosperity of the individual countries that form South Eastern Europe and, ultimately, to the success of Europe as a whole. The idea was to promote peace, foster cooperation and integrative processes and to support socio-economic and democratic development. For that reason, the Conference was designed to review the various means by which education, and educators, may be used to secure peace and prosperity in South Eastern Europe.
