The final stage of the project Functional Basic Education of Adult Roma

Project REF EndingBelgrade, October 2007. In 11 Serbian cities runs the end stage of Functional Basic Education of Adult Roma project. Big number of them who successfully finished the basic education within the project (VIII school classes) and got elementary school diploma, now participate in some of 15 offered trainings (ceramic work, walls and wall painting, house building, hairdressing, tailoring…). Some of them already find a job, and some have god chances to get one, because increasing their employability was one of main aims of the project. Evaluation shows relative small drop-out during the program and big satisfaction of participants with new basic education program and training. Functional Basic Education of Adult Roma Program is financed by REF (Roma Education Found) and Ministry of Education and Sport the Republic Serbia, National employment service and dvv international. The project is carried by Belgrade Institute for Pedagogy and Andragogy, and partner organizations are Office for minorities and human rights-Board for Roma rights, Adult Education Society, Ministry of Work and Social Policy, Poverty Reduction Office. Program is implemented by Elementary Schools, Schools for Elementary Education of Adults, Secondary Vocational Schools, Regional Training Centers, Roma NGOs and Local Employment Offices. Ministry of Education and Sport of the Republic of Serbia has nominated the Project for prestige UNESCO Literacy-reward 2007/2008.
