THE SMILE TRAINING III Participatory Methods for Shaping our Realities

S4023604Belgrade, March 2006. The training engaged 20 participants from region countries: Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia and Montenegro. The participating group varied in age, culture, religious and professional background but also in large or no experience in adult education. This kind of group constellation galvanized learning by mutual sharing and interaction among the participants. The group expressed knowledge, skills, motivation and hard work in offering creative solutions to the tasks thus contributing to the learning processes. Over the course of four days the participants were acquainted and involved in five methods: World Café, Open Space Technology, Future Creative Workshop, Future Search Conference and Appreciative Inquiry. The training design allowed the group members to experience these five methods as participants first but it also gave them a chance to choose the preferred method and then design, present and involve other group members in their own workshops. Participants decided to work on 4 workshops using respectively the World Café, the Future Creating Workshop, the Appreciative Inquiry and the Future Search Conference. The results of the evaluation showed that participants accepted the content of the training in a positive way and it could be expected that they will use what they learned in their future work with possibility to disseminate the gained knowledge in order to produce innovative solutions to individual, local, and regional issues.
