Adult Education and Development: Role and Impact of Adult Education (2019)

The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) continues to inspire dialog, exchange of ideas and critical reflection on highly relevant topics in adult education. Through this virtual seminar ICAE, in cooperation with DVV international, therefore wants to promote a debate and dialogue on selected articles from DVV International’s journal Adult Education and Development. This offers the chance to discuss the topics raised in the print issue in a virtual seminar and to go deeper and broaden the analysis. It creates a virtual space as an opportunity to share experiences from different regions and contexts, and to inspire new initiatives. In this issue of Adult Education and Development (AED), 20 authors from all over the world discuss the many facets of “role and impact of adult education”. They take a closer look at its impact on the world and on our lives, as well as share thoughts on what role adult education plays in development work and in the current global debate on the wider benefits of learning. What role does adult education play in society and in the lives of individuals? What contribution can it make to meeting challenges such as poverty, globalisation or digitisation? How can adult educators ensure that their programmes and offers achieve the desired impact? And how can we measure impact? These are some of the questions discussed in Virtual seminar 2019. Through this virtual seminar ICAE, in cooperation with DVV international, therefore wants to promote a debate and dialogue on selected articles from DVV International’s journal Adult Education and Development. This offers the chance to discuss the topics raised in the print issue in a virtual seminar and to go deeper and broaden the analysis. It creates a virtual space as an opportunity to share experiences from different regions and contexts, and to inspire new initiatives. Virtual seminar 2018 focuses on inclusion and diversity. Authors from all over the world discuss the many facets of “inclusion and diversity”. They write about their own identity, discuss the changes needed to create inclusive societies and adult education systems, and present concrete “inclusive” methods of adult education. What contribution can adult education make? Which learning approaches, programmes and institutions are needed to create an inclusive (adult) education system? And what does “inclusive” teaching actually mean? These are some of the questions discussed in Virtual seminar 2018. Publication is available in English.

The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) continues to inspire dialog, exchange of ideas and critical reflection on highly relevant topics in adult education. Through this virtual seminar ICAE, in cooperation with DVV international, therefore wants to promote a debate and dialogue on selected articles from DVV International’s journal Adult Education and Development. This offers the chance to discuss the topics raised in the print issue in a virtual seminar and to go deeper and broaden the analysis. It creates a virtual space as an opportunity to share experiences from different regions and contexts, and to inspire new initiatives. Virtual seminar 2017 focuses on skills and competencies. Promoting a holistic approach to adult education, which includes all areas of life and work, ICAE wants to support the discussion about skills for life, work, and citizenship, and foster an integral perspective, which would help avoiding silos way of thinking in adult education. Such an approach could also contribute to the recognition that education is essential for the success of all sustainable development goals. Publication is available in English.

Contemporary Issues and Perspectives on Gender Research in Adult Education (2016)

ESREA naslovna stranaPublication “Contemporary Issues and Perspectives on Gender Research in Adult Education” is conference proceedings from an international conference “Contemporary Issues and Perspectives on Gender Research in Adult Education. History, Philosophy, Methodology and Practice”, organized in October 2015 by ESREA (European Society for Research on the Education of Adults) in cooperation with the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade, Adult Education Society and the Institute of Pedagogy and Andragogy. The aim of the conference was to discuss what kind of research in adult education regarding gender are prevalent in academic communities, what are the philosophical and methodological backgrounds, how these issues influence formulation of research questions, how they relate to current adult education practice and what attitudes and subjectivities of adult educators researchers produce. Besides looking at the present, the conference tried to explore how adult education history was constructed in relation to gender perspective and to offer possibilities to rewrite the past in a gender inclusive manner. Contribution of Research to Improvement of Adult Education Quality (2016)

Contribution naslovnaMost of papers in this collection are based on presentations made at an inter-national conference “Empirical Research in Adult Learning and Education – Conceptual and Methodological Problems”, hosted by the University of Belgrade, 15 September, 2015, in the context of an ESRALE Summer Academy. Other papers were received in response to an invitation to a broader circle of associates working on relevant topics. In total, the collection contains 23 papers, by 38 authors- short biographies of whom are included at the end of the publication. The overall aim of the papers in this volume is to discuss the role of research in adult education, with a view to expanding the evidence base for the improvement of quality in the field of adult education and learning, policy and practice. Some of the major themes to emerge include: the theoretical-methodological basis of adult learning and education; adult education policies; adult illiteracy; elementary education of adults; vocational adult education; higher education; human resource development; career guidance; on line learning and research; prison education; and the education of vulnerable populations. Adult Education in Western Balkans (2015)

izvestajen16The publication Adult Education in Western Balkans – An Empirical View – is part of the regional project „Confintea VI Follow-up“ of the network of DVV International offices and partners in the region of south-east Europe, supported by The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). This research provided more information about: who the providers are of adult education programmes in the Western Balkan region, what their orientation is in terms of their programmes, how they are financed and what their attitudes are towards quality in the delivery of their programmes, who the facilitators of these programmes are, what their employment status is and what attitude they have towards their own professional improvement. In preparing for the research, almost 3000 providers of adult educational programmes and activities were recorded. This database alone is a significant result of this project, offering a basis for some future, more comprehensive study. Author: Miomir Despotović. Belgrade, 2016. Sailing Through Life (2015)

PlozivThe collections of poems “Sailing Through Life” is a product of the literary workshop organized by volunteer Red Cross of Savski Venac within program of self-aid groups. This book is a significant tool for improving visibility of self-organized community learning groups and encouragement for seniors poets, but also for their younger colleagues. The book was presented at IX Adult Learning Festival and disseminated to the most relevant social partners, who deal with life quality of seniors. To this publication creatively contributed the following authors: Slavka Saša Kostić, Budimir Buda Stanković, Mira Stipanović, dr Živadin Jovičić-Mikan, Milenka Jovanović, Biljana Aleksić, Staniša Petković, Vladimir Aracki, Mila Aracki, and Ruzica Ćalić, the moderator of the literary workshop. Curriculum GlobALE (2014)

GlobALEThis publication represents the results of joint work of German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) and the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (DVV International) to develop basic international curriculum for training for trainers in accordance with main principles in adult education. The main aim of this initiative was promotion the professionalization of the trainers who are working with adults. Furthermore, the encouragement the knowledge exchange between trainers around the world was important too. The Curriculum globALE based on three pillars: existing programs of training for trainers in adult education taking into account the project experience of DVV International, existing national qualification systems and standards for teachers in adult education, transnational standards of competencies for trainers in adult education, which designed within EU projects.
