Training “Prevention of violence against the elderly”

Accredited training program “Prevention of violence against the elderly” was carried out in the framework of the “Golden age of life” from 11th to 13th May, 2012 at the Gerontology Center in Belgrade. Training facilitators Marija Tasić, head of the Department of Health Care of the Elderly at the Institute for Gerontology and Svetlana Živanić, adviser for professional training in the Republic Institute for Social Protection. The training, which was attended by 16 social workers and 3 psychologists from the Gerontology Center, Belgrade, aimed at: gaining knowledge about the existence and consequences of discrimination and violence against the elderly, acquiring knowledge and skills for the recognition of the phenomenon of violence, the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary to recognize the symptoms of violence and recognition of the elderly who are at risk of becoming or have become victims of violence, developing communication skills of counseling and support to older people who are at risk of becoming victims or violence, training participants for screening, development of protocols and record keeping about older people who are at risk of becoming victims or violence, training for the creation of partnerships and institutions for the prevention of discrimination and violence against the elderly at the local level. The program was implemented to great success and the students evaluation was very positive.
